Overview
With Contacts and Accounts now live, every new lead starts by choosing who the deal is for: an existing contact, an existing account, or a new one. This guide is for brokers and admins creating leads in Effi.
Golden rule: search first; create only if they don't exist.
Key terms
A contact is one person; an account is a group of people who apply together.
| Term | What it is | How it's created | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Contact | One person (an applicant) | Automatically, for anyone who has been an applicant on a lead. You can also create one manually. | The deal is for a single applicant. |
| Account | A group of contacts, e.g. a couple or joint applicants | Manually, by you | The same group of applicants has, or will have, more than one deal, and you want to track them together. |
Selecting an account adds all of its contacts to the new deal in one step.

FAQs
Do I need to create a contact for a returning client? No. Anyone who has been an applicant on a lead already exists as a contact. Search for them instead.
When should I create an account? When the same group of applicants, such as a couple, will have more than one deal. The account keeps all their deals in one place.
What if I create a duplicate contact? Effi shows matching contacts while you enter details. Select the existing match to avoid duplicates.
